There's a
posting on the bike-touring site from someone in Arkansas who was chased by dogs three times in one day; all 3 dogs came from across the road, and all 3 were hit and killed by oncoming cars. All 3 drivers paused and then drove off. This cyclist had 2 similar incidents previous, one in Missouri, and one a year earlier at one of the same houses. What does that say about you as a pet owner if you have two dogs get hit and killed by cars when they run across the road to chase a bicyclist? (I have to wonder whether there were more than 2 from that house, because the odds of only 2 and both chasing the same cyclist are pretty extreme.) The cyclist spent the rest of the day pointing out loose dogs to drivers to avoid further carnage.
A very long discussion followed - good end for bad dogs; it's not the dogs' fault, bad owners; y'all are callous; loose dogs are a threat/safety hazard; pepper spray.... There have been several previous heated discussions about loose dogs chasing/attacking cyclists, and there's probably more I haven't seen yet.
