Pennsic XLIII: Peace Week, Friday

Aug 01, 2014 07:27

Fri Aug 1 07:27:07 EDT 2014

This is earlier than I planned to be up, but I got to bed before midnight. 66°F/18.9°C in the tent this morning.

Friday 08:38

Lots of music today. I think the cheese I opened yesterday may already be going moldy, and the bread too. ☹

Friday 23:25

This was the first hot day at Pennsic. (Not terribly hot, but hot in comparison to the previous days.) 67°F/19.4°C in the tent now.
dglenn arrived at camp, with a largely uneventful trip. Colleen is also here.

I picked up my 2 fused glass pieces from yesterday. I didn't know what color the dichroic pieces I picked were. I did one piece with a solid black background; 2 of its dichro pieces are silver/grey, and the 3rd is turqouise. The other piece has a striped background, white/blue/yellow and a bit of orange with a dark center blob; its little dichro piece is a pale greenish blue. A bubble formed in it. Moll says I could bring it back next year, poke a hole through to the bubble, and fire it again. (I guess I've got a year to think about it. ☺) I'm going to need to start marking them on the back so I'll know which pieces are from which Pennsic. 3 Pennsics I can remember - for now.

It's been a day with lots of music. I've just come back from playing in the open band for a ball tonight. The band was huge. This was a new ball; apparently there hasn't been one the mid-Pennsic Friday, and it took 3 years of requests to add this to the schedule. Balls often have trouble attracting bands, so they want to know what they did right this time. From my viewpoint,
  • the band master asked for people
  • and announced a rehearsal,
  • the end time was announced as 22:00 (more like 22:30);
    • dances often go quite late and I feel bad about leaving before the dancers are done
    • and I can't stay out late playing music if I want to be up early for classes
  • and dinner was ready early at my camp; our unpredictable mealtimes make evening activities difficult.

Today's classes:
