Thursday 2014/Feb/20 the towpath was unrideable. I took a different route home, crossing on Key Bridge (instead of Chain Bridge) and riding west through hilly Arlington (instead of the flat towpath). I took a variant of that route in to work today, taking a stretch of the
Custis Trail alongside I-66 instead of a hillier bit of Lee Highway. The bike trail along the interstate would really benefit from noise cancellation. There was lots more noise in DC, sirens in particular, that the ANC would probably cut. But it's important to hear what's going on around you in traffic. I don't know whether ANC would cut out something important. I was listening to the radio this morning, instead of podcasts, so it was moot today.
This Key-Bridge route is more than a mile shorter. But I didn't like the traffic on M St in Georgetown. (M St was bad when I was in high school, 40 years ago.) I just looked at the DC Bicycle Map; M St is marked as "poor" traffic conditions for cycling. The road surface is in poor condition too.
