Men who don't consider overweight women for potential mates are labelled "shallow".
What if I look around my extended family and see a lot of obesity and poor health? There's an obvious predisposition - whatever combination it is of genetic, environmental, dietary, life-style, velc.
And what if I wish to avoid this very-likely outcome? I need a partner who can help me with this.
And what kind of partner is going to help me keep my weight down? Someone overweight, or slender; sedentary, or active?
You look around and you can see traits run through families. Maybe this "shallowness" is simply avoiding bad influences.
