watches

I haven't done well with watches the last few years.

I used to have a not-too-fancy Timex with an "analog" + digital display (dual time zones), alarm, stopwatch, and water resistant. But it got lost. (Packing out of a Pennsic is the last I remember seeing it. I took it off when doing something physical, and I think a campmate "liberated" it.)

Next came a cheap digital from Wal*Mart. It was clunky, but it sufficed, for a while. The digital and the "analog" personas were schizoid, and didn't drift together. They also didn't die together as the battery faded - nor did they both return when the battery was replaced.

The pastel green Timex Calculator watch (from a deal-a-day site) has been working fine, and the retro calculator function is quite popular with my co-workers, but I don't really like wearing a pastel green watch. But it is functional, and water resistant.

The "lava" watch, all links, isn't as functional. You have to push a button to see the time, and I haven't taken the time to adjust the band to fit my wrist. It didn't claim to be water resistant either, so it's not really suitable for me.
My watches have to be water resistant, or they will die. I eventually figured out that sweat prematurely killed all my childhood watches.

So I've ordered a couple more cheap watches. The Skechers digital is glow in the dark, ever popular. It's got all the basic functions - time, date, alarm, timer, water resistant (30m/100ft).
And the Timex "analog" watch will be suitable for more formal settings. It lacks a lot of features, but it has the time, and is water resistant (30m/100ft). (It's not really analog. It has a quartz movement. That's digital. The second hand moves in steps. Digital. I'd even argue that wind-up watches with escapements are really digital. Everything is still moving in steps, not continuously.)

And this cute little case might be good for holding my commute amenities - MP3 player, ear buds, bluetooth headset, etc. It would be great if it's secure parking for the farecard. I have trouble fishing it out of my shirt pocket around the work ID badges, and that will be even harder with coats in colder weather.

I got 3 separate shipping confirmations yesterday for this order. But the 3 items are not projected to arrive on the same dates, and I can't tell from the emails which confirmation is for which item. (Each lists all 3 items.) Something's out on a local FedEx truck now and arriving today, but I don't know what it is. (I guess I'll find out tonight....)

Friday 23:11

The glow-in-the-dark watch is here. It arrived about 5 minutes after my bus came this morning. I barely missed my regular bus, so I left half an hour late. I'm guessing the other watch is the other FedEx shipment, projected for Monday. The 3rd item is coming USPS, and there's no detail on the tracking page yet.
