bike lights

woot! was selling the Vetta Nano Lux 3-Watt LED Headlight for $35 (list $90). The LED I've attached to my helmet is also 3 watts, so I thought another comparable mounted on the bike would be good. The website was short on detail, so I did some searching and eventually found a review - from 4 years ago. LEDs have been getting a lot more potent, and a 4-year-old design is simply not a good choice. (Unless it's really cheap. Cheaper than this woot!.) One of the other sites selling the Vetta had links to other lights, and I came across the 1200 Lumen CREE XML T6 HeadLight/Lamp - much more light for slightly cheaper. Cree has been the name in LEDs for the last few years. My current 3-watt light is 150 lumens. The Vetta is rated in lux instead of lumens, making comparison difficult. But 1200 compared to 300* is obviously better. There seem to be a lot of Chinese knock-offs with the Cree emitter priced around $30-$35.

I never got around to buying any of the primo Nightlightning gear from New Zealand.

*I'm sure this made sense to me when I wrote it, but when it's actually getting posted [May 2017] I have no idea where the "300" came from. The link to the Vetta review is dead; maybe that said 300 lumens? Amazon has 1 review with no detail. 1200 is better than 150 would be a comparison to the Remington. (The Remington has died since this post, but that didn't seem to get mention in the upcoming not-yet-posted entries.)
