Now and then I am reminded of what the Internet is like for other people. My company is having a picnic. In November. (I've been here more than 2 years, and this is the first picnic, so this is better than before.) There's an e-vite to get a head count for catering. I'm looking at it now on my office PC. There are animated (i.e. distracting, bandwidth-wasting, cpu-sucking) ads from Kellogg's and Weight Watchers. (I get different ads when I reload - now VeriSign/Symantec and Cesar dog food (never heard of it).) I didn't see any ads when I looked at the page on my own computer (with Firefox and Privoxy) at home.
It's really too bad the browsers at work are so locked down that we can't use ad blockers.
