I've been awake about half an hour. It's chilly this morning. WYSU (Youngstown, Ohio public radio) forecast - cloudy, but no rain, high around 70°F/21°C. That should be good weather for packing out, so-so for recharging the storage battery.
Pennsic is "over"; there's nothing scheduled today. There'll be almost no one here tonight. I'll probably try to get some of my packing organized better than it was when I came out here, so I might be able to see out of the car better. I didn't buy anything large (just some glass jewelry, which fits into my crafts tackle box), although the class notes are a notable volume of paper. And some things have been consumed, so they won't be taking up space going back. If the laptop had lots of power, I might transfer audio files and pictures and organize them (convert .wavs to .mp3s and edit) for my webpage. I don't think I'll have much new to blog.
Saturday 08:07
Weather forecast now says there's a chance of rain and thundershowers today and this evening; current temperature 62°F/16.7°C. I can hear people packing, tent poles clanking.
Turned off WiFi - re-enabled when boot-up did not recover hibernate-saved state.
[ check out Wired story about hacker getting info from Amazaon to delete everything on iPhone, iPad, and Mac via iCloud. Advise people to make and keep their local, physical backups on external disks. Should be links from "On the Media". [2016: Apparently I heard something on the radio worth sharing. I haven't been able to search the
website.]]
Saturday 09:32
Vasilisa has just learned that people have been using her solar panels as mirrors. The angle of the panels should be less vertical, given the track of the sun. That's why you haven't seen people doing this with my solar panel.
Saturday 11:00
They didn't clean the porta-potties this morning, an incentive to get people to leave.
House Bloodjack to our north has gone. Clan Cambion to our west are packing, hoping to beat the rain. Anna's van is here, and she'll take a load of us up to parking to fetch our cars. So we can do some of our packing and loading this afternoon. There'll be lots of space here.
I can scarcely see where the needle went in for the blood drive Monday, and there was no bruise. Hardly noticed anything the rest of the week.
Saturday 13:30
Back at camp with the car. Light Rain again. Charging the laptop in the car. The cellphone finished charging off the storage battery.
Saturday 14:10
Typing in handwritten entries. Laptop shows 1:40 left after some charging from the car (i.e. really the car) battery. [14:30] Shows 1:15 remaining after typing. Going to resume charging....
Saturday 16:14
It keeps raining off and on. It's not enough to prevent people from loading, but it's keeping the tents wet. This sucks for anybody who had no choice about leaving yesterday or today.
My laptop battery is still not completely charged, but it shows 4:42 remaining now. ☹
Saturday 17:10
Anna has remarked several times this week that Caer Edgemere hasn't had any "drama" this Pennsic. She attributes this to the absence of 2 people in particular, so
anniemal was not the entire problem. (Anniemal didn't come last year, and there was still drama without her. I wonder what things were like 2 years ago, when neither Annie nor I came (because of my job change)?) The other person passed away this past year. (Her husband and mother-in-law were also regular camp members, and I was surprised that they are not here this year.) I generally wasn't aware of most of the "drama", because most days I was gone all day for classes, and often gone in the evenings as well for concerts or to play music for dances. But apparently problem #2 was always picking at her mother-in-law (who is a very nice and considerate lady with a good sense of humor).
Saturday 19:55
We've had some dinner, and we're going to be packing up the kitchen. (Breakfast tomorrow will be cold cereal and pop tarts.) The skies are clearing and I think the rain may be done. Tents are still going to be wet, because the sun is setting soon. A lot of people are still here. More people would have packed out wet today if the forecast for tomorrow were more rain like today. Some people are still wrapping it up at this hour; I guess that works if you don't have too far to drive. But it's too far for us tonight.
I'm looking forward to getting home, but not to unpacking; not sure about seeing Anniemal (I guess that depends on her condition and attitude), and not looking forward to going to work Monday. Back to reality.
Saturday 22:21
People are up talking our last night here, but I'm getting sleepy. I've been waking up around 06:30 every morning. I put some things in the car before it got dark, but there's a lot to do tomorrow morning, both for my tent and for the communal camp space - kitchen, water heater, large garage tent.
