A few weeks ago Microcenter sent me a card with a coupon for a 4GB USB flash drive, a 4GB SDHC memory card, or a 802.11n WiFi router. I've been thinking a 2nd router for the bedroom end of the house, where the signal is weak, would be nice. We're also overdue to upgrade from the slower 802.11g, since I think both our new laptops support 11n. Or it could be a spare. (Or the current one could be a spare.) The brand turns out to be Tenda, which I'd never heard of before. Inconclusive comments on the 'net, but it's FREE. There were also 2 pass-to-a-friend coupons - Microcenter trying to collect names and addresses.

I finally got out to Microcenter this evening. My brother went with me. It looks like they're finally about to get cable internet at his house, so he needs a router. (It's a big, 3-level house, so he may need two. But he can start with one and see what kind of coverage he can get.)

I also bought a large cheap umbrella (It said "golf umbrella", but it's not as big as it should be for that.), and I finally found a netbook sleeve that (almost) fits my laptop. Turns out it's from Targus, like the case I found for it. I guess they've simply decided to (sort-of) support devices this size. The sleeve makes for a considerably smaller package than the case, which will make it easier to carry the computer in my backpack or bike panniers, but and the power adapter is going to need a separate little bag. The sleeve is neoprene with a corduroy lining, so it should do the cushiony thing rather nicely. It has a zippered pouch, but I don't think it's going to hold much beyond a CD or a few pages of notes. (And I wouldn't think it a safe place for a CD, without the rigidity of the laptop in the case.) The pouch can hold the power adapter. It's a stretch of a fit, designed for 10.2" (25.9cm) screens, while mine is 11.6" (29.5cm).
Targus Netbook Sleeve
I can't find this sleeve on the Targus web site. It's the 10.2" version of this 12" sleeve: Targus 12" Netbook Sleeve with Accessory Pocket (Blue) TSS12502US

I'm finding wildly-varying prices for the Targus TSS21002US Netbook Sleeve - one site at $44.39 (claiming "Selling Elsewhere for $83"), and several sites around $25. Best Buy shows no price, saying it was discontinued. That may explain why I can't find it on the Targus web site, and maybe why Microcenter has it at such a bargain (or close-out?) price ($9).

*Actually $82.99, but I'm tired of playing that game.
