There was a lot of fallen wood and sawn limbs out at the curb in one neighborhood on my commute. The thunderstorms over the weekend must have hit that area pretty hard.
In the darker areas on my ride home I could see lots of particles streaming through my head-LED beam. I don't know of any reason there would have been a lot of dust after midnight. I'm guessing it was pollen, probably from trees. Trees having sex all night....
My bike-helmet light "failed" in an odd way on the way home tonight. I couldn't change the brightness. The switches didn't work at all. I couldn't turn it off. I thought maybe it was enough of a computer to need a "reboot". After I got home, I popped the battery case open and the light went off, but it came back on, still stuck, when I closed it again. I left it open for a while, and it didn't come back on when I closed it again. The switch turned it on, and then it was stuck once more. I decided to test the 4 cells. One was near full, 2 were down a bit, and the 4th was at about 1/10 the voltage it should have had. With a cell near zero, I was suprised the light worked at all. It was nice that it "failed" with plenty of light. When the cells drain more evenly, the light shuts off to protect them from over-discharge. (Didn't work for the one that's down to 10%. It may be toast. I'll miss it; that set of 4 dates back to my first digicam, the lamented Casio QV-3500EX.)
