Firefox extensions

Firefox had a recent upgrade release, and that routinely leaves some add-ons orphaned. There's a "Find Updates" function that's supposed to scan the add-ons you have installed and tell you about any that have updates available. I've found out it doesn't report them all. (There was mention of an update in deepestsender that was not picked up by Find Updates, but the new version was on the extension's own web page. And I found another 4 missing after I checked all the individual web pages for the disabled add-ons.) People often delay browser updates (which usually include security patches) because they don't want to lose important add-ons, and a broken Find Updates may lead people to delay needlessly.

Here's a look at what add-ons I'm using with Firefox. Most of these have been on my previous lists, but there's 3 new ones. I'm trying out a search engine that (claims it) doesn't keep user logs. So far it seems to give useful and prompt results. Google (and others) could possibly give better search results based on tracking previous search behavior, but I think I'd rather have the privacy of anonymity. The BugMeNot extension would also count for privacy, along with convenience, by evading the need to create personal accounts that some free sites (e.g. many newspapers, including the Washington Post and the NY Times) require for access. (Several of you have been using BugMeNot for some time; I already had accounts at the places it would be useful, so I hadn't bothered with it.)

And I went through my installed extensions and removed all of them that hadn't been updated for anything after Firefox 2.X. It's safe to say their developers have abandoned them. Some have replacements, some have seen their functionality become part of the browser, and some really are a loss.

[Feb 02] Remove It Permanently's update is installable now, so it's off my disabled list.
I'm about to revisit Forecastfox....
Discovered that ProxyButton is still supported (0.3.1), but recent versions are not on the Mozilla site (0.1.8), and it won't install because it does not provide secure updates. (There's probably a way around that, but I'm not going to invite trouble.)
