I finished my first substantial piece of chainmail jewelry this afternoon. (I made a couple of bracelets after taking the chainmail classes at Pennsic last summer, and then nothing since.) It's a necklace to hold my Pennsic badge. It's a short length of round mail coming up from the badge that splits into 2 strands of box mail which connect around the neck. It's made of 18-gauge 1/4" inside-diameter stainless steel rings, and it weighs about 4.5 oz (125 gm). I started it last Sunday at Baitcon.
My technique improved as I worked on it (I am still a beginner), so the best-closed rings are at the top, behind my neck, were no one will notice. Oh well, my next project will be the better for it. (Maybe a picture later, although it's not much to look at.)
If anyone has seen these "Stack-On" brand craft/organizer boxes in the DC/NoVA area, please let me know where. These seem to be a nice size for storing working quantities of a palette of rings. I have one box that
anniemal picked up somewhere in her past. Another like this would be good, and their middle-sized box looks excellent for taking along a work in progress.
