website updating

This morning's website update from my laptop to the web server has trashed bchivers.name. Something broke the connection during the rsync, and the only things on the site now are some photos from Aug 1-2, and they're not in the correct directory structure.
There's another rsync running now, but that will take ages to copy everything over from my laptop. ☹

Sunday 23:24

rsync is taking far too long to restore my webserver from my laptop. I've connected the external drive with the backup I did before Pennsic, and that will probably load most of the content in faster than rsync will. rsync will be able to skip the things that match, and it will still fill in with any new files that were created on my laptop since the backup (i.e. the new site content - Pennsic photos and audio recordings).

Sunday 23:42

Going from a(n external) local disk is much faster. It's loaded 25GB in about 20 minutes, versus less than 1GB in 12 hours over the WiFi. (They WiFi will still have to provide the past 2 weeks of photos and concerts.)

Monday 01:01

The web server's disk filled up. Doing a simple cp (copy) didn't preserve the hard links reducing the space needed for indentical files. I'm trying to copy with tar now....

Monday 10:05

Still working on restoring my webserver's data. The restore from the external backup disk completed, but all the access permissions were incorrect and had to be changed. Now rsync from my laptop is running again to get the newest files....

Monday 11:29

The files are copying from the laptop, but it's taking a long time. The .wav files are big, and there's matching .mp3 files, and after that, lots of photos.

Tuesday 00:49

The .wav and .mp3 files are still copying to the webserver. I think it's on the last of those. Maybe the new photos will complete overnight?

Tuesday 10:10

Copying to the webserver completed at 07:52. Looking around, I'm not finding any broken links in the new content.

Tuesday 13:00

The new Pennsic concert recordings are on line: http://bchivers.name/audio/
The photos are up too.

I'm seeing more of the addictive nature of Facebook. All those Likes you get when you post something popular (You know that music we've worked on so hard for a week? I have recordings....) are like crack. (Not that I would really have any personal understanding of what crack is like.) Or when you're getting friend requests from people you've had (or still have) crushes on.
