commute

Very windy today, but mostly tailwinds for my commute in. 59°F/15°C felt cold after the recent warm weather, but it was cold with the wind. It was warmer downtown; I was overdressed for 64°F/17.8°C.
(Assuming headwinds going home, I will not be overdressed tonight with full-finger gloves and a headband over my ears.)

Today is trash/recycling pickup in my neighborhood, and there were many trash bins blown over on Old Dominion Dr.

There's a huge tree blown over blocking I-66 outbound near Spout Run. There's a smashed-up minivan that was probably unable to stop when the tree fell. There's a crew working on clearing the road, and maybe they'll have it open again for rush "hour". Traffic on the parallel arterial streets (like US 29) is terrible. It was hard to get good photos of the tree from the (parallel) bike trail because there's a chain-link fence with a small mesh. A cellphone camera (with a much smaller lens) would probably have done better. I could reach up high enough to shoot over the fence, but I'd need a fold-out screen to see where the camera was pointed. (There probably is an iPhone app for my camera for WiFi remote.)

I found a sidewalk mailbox at 1750 Pennsylvania Ave NW (McPherson USPS) for sending in our tax filing and a fecal sample (separate destinations). Your refund shouldn't be 10% of your salary!
Notre Dame (Paris) is on fire. ☹ I'm wondering how it started. I wonder whether more world treasures are similarly vulnerable. (Like that museum in Brazil recently.)

I've sung at Notre Dame twice on choir tours.
