Awake at 05:40, again at 07:00; surprisingly, the nearest potties all full.
The laptop dropped 5% overnight. (I'm still not getting enough sleep.)
No reason to be getting up this early today. Very few classes scheduled; none entices me up the hill.
Today is the last day for the merchants; they must close by 17:00. I haven't seen anything I wanted to buy. (And I don't have space in the car for anything sizeable.)
When I took my nap yesterday afternoon, the tent was very hot. (Duh.) I took my unloading/staging ground cloth and spread it over the tent, and blocking that sun helped a lot. I had not completely unfolded it, so I've just unfolded the last layer and it mostly covers the tent. That will keep it cooler in the tent this morning, and I can sleep in later. The tent is darker with the tarp, but it's not opaque, and there still light coming through the lower sides of the tent. An extra layer on top would also extend the life of the tent; it would have prevented the leaks I saw the first couple of days, and protecting the fabric from UV will delay its breakdown.
Caer Edgemere tends to leave Sundays, but that's always such a rush; everyone is supposed to be off site by 12:00, and we are never done and gone on time. (And since House Bloodjack is gone, we never have a shower that last night, either. ☹) Getting back Saturnsday would also give me Sunday for unpacking at home; some things were never properly cleaned and put away last year (nor the year before).
Freyasday 09:46
The tent is getting warm. I don't think I ever got back to sleep. I can hear other people up in camp.
Freyasday 10:17
Copying another 3GB of recorded audio files to the laptop....
Freyasday 11:03
There are still battles being fought today; I occasionally hear the cannon firing to signal these.
I'm listening to the recordings from Wodensday night (
Wolgemut and the KWC at the food court) and last night (
KWRE). That little Zoom H2 still does a nice job.
Freyasday 16:35
The laptop had crashed - suspended past the remaining battery? There should have been enough charge to last until dark.
We had a camp meeting to discuss things that had worked well and things that could be improved next year. I think this is the 2nd meeting we've had since I've been here.
House Bloodjack is removing their portion of the shared plumbing hookup, so the shower will be gone tonight. ☹ We still have the water heater, so our kitchen has hot and cold water.
Freyasday 20:01
It's been raining the last few hours. I think a lot of people were trying to pack out today, and this weather is bad for them. (Tents packed up wet have to be unpacked at home to dry, and then packed again.) We had a mad dash before the rain to pack up one tent here; the occupant is leaving tonight, but her tent will be staying in our nearby storage.
I was hoping to see whether minding the solar panel all day would increase the amp-hours stored, but the clouds and rain have cut the charging day.
I've had a nap and recharged the laptop. The iPhone also needs charging, but the iSound battery/charger has gone dead since it's last use. It appeared to have enough capacity left after the last phone charging for at least 1 one more charging, perhaps 2. But as I have seen before, it loses its charge whether it is used or not. ☹ So the phone is getting a charge off the 12v battery with a USB adapter. (The charge controller that came with the new solar panel has a USB output built in, but the controller doesn't provide info about how much power is going in and out of the system.) The iPhone has been in low-power mode since the last charging, so it should not be needing charging as often as usual.
I used the iPhone for Facebook - it turns out we have a Caer Edgemere group - but I found FB far more annoying on the phone than on a "real" computer. I was using Chrome, and I have no intention of installing the FB app; if I don't trust the platform to begin with, installing its app and giving them more access would not be rational. (Not that there's much to learn about me on the phone, since I don't much like cellphones either. Tracking my GPS data would probably be of interest, though.)
Freyasday 20:28
I think it's sunset. I'm in the tent, covered with the tarp, but the light coming in below has a reddish tint now. [Slippery Rock, PA sunset @ 20:24.]
Freyasday 20:37
Yes, getting darker now....
Saturnsday 00:11
The light I add to the shower seems to have gone with House Bloodjack this year. It doesn't matter, if they remember to bring it back next year. (One (small) less thing for me to carry.)
Another late dinner, but spanikopita, and then beef-barley soup.
The Grill Ninja stopped by, searching for Colleen (aka Ninja Bunny).
The campground is quieter tonight. Many people are gone; the rain did not encourage anyone to stay. (Except for those with flexible schedules and hoping for dryer packing weather tomorrow. But tomorrow's forecast is iffy too.) I-79 traffic is surprisingly light tonight too.
For extremely-light laptop use, the solar panel has been keeping up. But extra-light means short periods, text editing (vi), no WiFi/networking, and minimal screen brightness.
