bike lighting

The new Magicshine taillight ran down tonight somewhere on the canal towpath. I've been using it on Flash-1 at low brightness, which should run 11.5 hours. This was the 5th night I've used it, and my commute's a little over an hour, so we could call it 6 hours of use - way short of 11.5.

Flash-2 is claimed to run 15 hours on low, but it's quite annoying. I'm aiming for hard-to-overlook visible, but annoying's a bit too far. On steady should last 5.5 hours on low.

It recharged in about 90 min after I got home.

One problem with running it down to see how long the battery lasts is that I'm left riding home with one less light. (Although that's the sometimes-awesome light I've been using for years now.) And I have no way to recharge it on the road. (It won't run while it's charging, anyway. And the charging socket is under the mount, so a 2nd reason you couldn't use it while charging.) I guess I could just leave it on while sitting around at home as a test. A couple of headlights I've read about can USB-charge your phone (at the cost of runtime from the headlight), so that would work for charging this taillight. One of those headlights is high on my short list.
