Considering the heavy taxation of cigarettes, I wonder why people don't grow their own tobacco and make their own smokes? It doesn't seem like it would be that difficult. If you have a house and a yard, your attic would probably be fine for drying the leaves. (If it took over your whole yard, you wouldn't need to mow.) And the commercial products have a lot of additives; back-to-basics should be another appeal. Maybe people would even want/need fewer per day if they weren't so adulterated.

If I weren't living with an alcoholic I would certainly be fermenting my own cider, and making mead.
