4 Days Left

My mind is experiencing a bit of sensory overload right now. After buying my new digicam on Saturday, it's been a constant endeavor to wrangle something worthwhile out of it. I've been working steadily at it for the last three days, studying the manual, going on assignment, and sorting and editing the shots.

Sunday, I rode out to New Westminister, and found myself on the harbourfront where there was a hobo camp underneath a rail pass. I spent a while there and ended up with a couple of useable images. The ride itself was really great; this amazing fall weather has been the icing on the cake. When I returned home, I saw Richard and Lynn going by, and called to them. They dropped by for some tea, which rounded the day off nicely.

Yesterday, I went to Lynn Creek and found a spot that had a strange, mystical quality to it. As the angle of the sun changed, steam started to rise from the moss on the rocks and logs, and there were beams of sunlight reflecting the mist. I accidentally shot some images in the Positive color mode, and fortunately they seemed better than the regular mode. I now have a 30 second timer, so it is allowing me to get into the frame and pose. As soon as i began, I realized that I had already made a jump from my previous attempts at self-portraiture. Now I just have to figure out how best to use what I've captured.

After leaving the serentiy of the creekside, I continued into Lonsdale where I did a quick trespass to get some shots of the shipyard buildings that they are converting down there. I took a few interior shots, but it didn't really capture the feeling of being in there. Next, I kept on riding west, along the waterfront, until I was able to get up onto Lion's Gate Bridge. By that time, I could feel my energy starting to crash, and started to think about getting home. As I continued, I decided to stop in for pizza in the old Antique Mall neighborhood. After a haircut, I ended up back home and on the computer for most of the evening. As I reviewed the days results, I realized I would have to go back to that magical spot in Lynn Creek, this time with props, and at the same precise time, so I mentally made plans on what to take and how I might stage a masterpiece.

Well, no masterpiece yet, but I think I'm getting a bit closer to what I want to achieve. After taking shot after shot, nothing was absolutely spot on in the end, so I had to settle for the best two or three. It was quite an effort to make it happen; stumbling around on wet boulders didn't make it easy. The best part was probably just being there at the moment when the sunlight started to hit the sweet spot.

I'm going to do some more sorting and post an image link to the captures from the last three days.
