If you haven't watched the last three episode of Pushing Daisies, and you don't want to be spoiled at allllllll, skip this post.
Anyways, while I was watching episode 11, back when it was leaked from England, I kept thinking about how eerily similar it was to the movie Savannah Smiles. I freaking loved that movie as a kid- I think it was the first movie that ever made me cry. Basically, a little girl runs away from her family by packing a suitcase and sneaking into a random car, only it turns out she picks a car belonging to a pair of crooks. The crooks get in their car and drive away, and then discover they have a little girl in their back seat. They figure out that her parents are rich, and decide to get a ransom for her return. While all of this is going on, they bond with Savannah, and buy her toys and a puppy and she is very happy with them, and they get very attached to her. At the end, of course, they have to give Savannah back to her parents, and Savannah is heartbroken, and the crooks are taken away by the police.
The beginning of Episode 11 plays out almost exactly the same way. I couldn't believe it when I was watching it. I kept wondering if they were doing it on purpose, or if it was a coincidence. Turns out, they were totally doing it on purpose according to
this (spoiler-filled) interview.
And now I love Brian Fuller even more.
