I started college this week,I have to say,it's everything that I expected it to be and more,it's fucking brilliant!I'm getting on really well with all the guys on my course, made friends with virtually everyone,it's a good atmosphere. The college is in a real nice area of Greenock too.Monday was a good start, met everyone on the course properly in the morning and had my solo practise,i'm getting my lessons at the same time as a guy called "Paddy" who's fuckin hilarious,so it's all good.
Monday afternoon was also an incredibly enjoyable experiance, bandwork. It was what I had been waiting for,i'm in a band with probably the two best guitarists i've heard in the year and a cool wee drummer dude named Ollie (Oliver). They're all good guys,we just jammed some stuff, ran through about 8 songs or so.Was rather impressed with the talent however,we played Sweet Child O' Mine and Craig got the riff pretty much perfect and then Joey (Who's actually called Paul, but gets called Joey because he's a daft italian I.E Joey Tribiani from friends) Played the solo perfect. He's a big Guns N Roses fan,I was rather impressed. We also played knockin on heavens door which again, was impressive with Craig taking the first solo, and Joey taking the second, was pure funny though, because just before Joey went to play his solo,he let his hair down, put a fag in his mouth and stood and played as Slash would. It was probably the highlight of my day, amused me to fuck, but at the same time, was an awesome solo.We also played "Walk" By Pantera which I sang (Quite well in my opinion considering i've never tried before). And before that we played "Slither" by Velvet Revolver, which we pretty much perfected,I just need to work on holding the bass rhythm whilst singing it!But all in all I felt I did a not-bad job of it.Our tutor Hugh said that we're probably the best NC class he's heard in terms of talent since he's been lecturing there,so it seems promising. We also played "American Woman" by Lenny Kravitz, where Joey took the mic and did not too bad a job of the vocals at all, followed by improvised solos from him and Craig, played some other stuff too e.g Welcome to the Jungle, your standard 12 bar blues,All My Life by the Foo Fighters and some of Master of Puppets.Next week we're doing "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead and a selection of other stuff and the rest of the time we're gonna spend writing songs. So yeah.College is pretty fucking good. Also,as time goes on,expect me to badger you to come see my college band,as part of the course is gigging in places up town e.g if you're shitty, just wee pubs etc,but when you get better, you start getting gigs up King Tuts and the ABC and such.
So yeah.
Hope you all are doing well, drop me a line!
