It really left KAITO with some doubts and second-guessing about a lot of things. But it'd be bad if he thought about it too much, right? [Ahahaha, he was called a 'kid'. Somehow it didn't surprise him that he'd be called such one day.] Thank you.

And, um, interesting in a good or bad way? [He's genuinely curious, wanting feedback on this.]

[Bad habit of Derek's from giving team mates call signs--Kaito sounds young to him, hence the nickname. Knowing him, he'll nickname the entire place before too long. Or there'll be a lot of people he'll be calling 'kid'. Or both. XD]

It's not my kind of music, but you have a strong voice. Got a good sense of pitch, too.

What kind of music do you like?

Rock. Blues. Some country. Classical. Stuff like that.

That's a good variety, [he comments.]

I don't think I've ever sung any country or blues, but I'm a little familiar with rock and classical. [Those aren't genres he's often used in, though.] Do you listen to music a lot?

[derek_bliss]

Used to. My job before I got here though had me traveling a lot, and music wasn't readily available. Still, I don't mind hearing new stuff.

What kind of music do you like?

I like all kinds of music, but I usually sing ballads or pop. They say my voice is better for it.

Was your job hard?

[derek_bliss]

You could say that, yeah. It's not something I'd recommend folks get into if they don't have to.

[synthesice]

["If they don't have to"?]

You didn't have a choice?

[derek_bliss]

[Pause]

Yes and no. I could have said no. I chose not to.

Can I ask what your job was?

[derek_bliss]

[Another, longer pause while Derek weighs out the problems or lack there-of between not telling the truth and letting whoever else might be able to hear the conversation know.

Finally, there's a quiet sigh as he makes his decision]

Vampire hunter.

[He's not big on lying.]

[He shouldn't really be startled, considering how many different kinds of people were here. Still, he can't help the initial surprise... as well as the thought that he knew a vampire and should probably never introduce the two to each other.]

That sounds difficult. I can't really imagine it.

[derek_bliss]

[And meanwhile, Derek, who already knows about the vampire population from someone else is mentally head-desking. He's not interested in any pre-emptive strikes. Let's hope the 'other side' feels the same way...]

It's probably a good thing if you can't. Nasty business. Most folks don't last very long. 'Least, that's how it goes where I come from.
