Happy Chinese New Year! Technically, New Year's Day was on the 26th, but it lasts for two weeks until the Lantern Festival on February 9th. Things are looking up, though to make sure, I'm hosting a small Chinese New Year celebration; it will be good luck.
As befits a new year, my statement of work has been approved and will be signed this week (retroactive to yesterday). Not that I was unemployed, but it's nice to have billable hours on an extended (6 months+) contract. Especially when the client office is only 15 minutes away. Woot!
In the meanwhile, there are some events coming up that have an open invitation attached to them ...
If you enjoy wines and you enjoy Austria, come to
The Wine Cabinet in Reston. Next Tuesday (2/3), they are holding one of their wine classes, and this time, it's on the new vintages from Austria.
wbenetti and I had the chance to visit Austria (and the "totally cool to get lost in a foreign city with"
hvw), and while we mostly had their nom-nom-nommy beers, we also had the chance to taste some of the wines. They do very well with whites, though some reds are pretty decent, too. The class is at 7pm, and you'll need to sign up before hand.
JoCo is back! Once again, one of my favorite, quirkiest singer-songwriters is back in the VA area. He's playing at the
Birchmere, which is a really nice, small, intimate venue. JoCo is with Paul & Storm, unfortunately, but they're endurable, and JoCo is SO 'EFFIN' WONDERFUL that you shouldn't miss this for anything less than a total snowicestormblackout of the entire DC Metro area.
Buy your tickets now. In the far future, you'll realize "That's no moon ... That's the
Dogfish Head Alehouse - Chantilly!" Yes, one of our favorite beers has created one of our favorite alehouses, and it's now been placed in one of our ... well, not "favorite," per se, but we're definitely happy it's much, much closer to us than Seven Corners. And now we'll be able to see
milk93rd and
lenepeace more! (Though I think they're seriously considering just moving in to the Alehouse.) Much as we did to celebrate the opening of Dogfish Head Alehouse - Falls Church, we will be creating our own grand opening celebration of the Chantilly branch on March 13. Come and join us for happy hour.
While we can't attend every one of them (much to my dismay!), the hard-hitting women of DC will be back in the rink at several
DC Rollergirls events. They're at the DC Armory, so it's a bit of a haul, but it's a lot of fun to go to. Girl fight! Girl fight! Come watch our very own
cutefuzzykitty get her skate on. The next matches are Feb 21, March 14, and April 18.
There are also some upcoming events that don't have specific dates yet.
cutefuzzykitty is putting together dancing and roller skating. And there are trips to the new wine bars in Reston and Leesburg to be scheduled for some Friday night. Not to mention when it gets warmer, we'll be doing some happy hours again. And, at some point,
disoculated and
hugeboozehound were talking about an Ill Omen cider tasting. Lots of stuff to do. So stay tuned!
