What an exhausting week last week! And most of it was because of my new fitness regime. So, in honor of my complete lack of energy, I give you my workout schedule from last week:
Monday:
- 30 min weight lifting session w/ James. Did 4 sets of 8 reps at 135 lbs of bench presses, dead lifts, and box squats. Did other stuff, too, but those are what stick out in my mind.
- 90 min yoga w/ Krista. Beginning to be a bit bothered by all the Unity and light, and not quite into it this day.
Tuesday:
- 90 min tennis clinic.
Wednesday:
- 75 min cardio boot camp. 4 stations of 3 exercises each, plus the harness pull, bunny hops, and cones. I took down the numbers this time. Will compare with this week's numbers. Happy that I came in at 25 regular, 9 modified push ups in 1 minute at the first station.
Thursday:
- 45 min of tennis w/ Marlynn.
Friday:
- 1 hour weight lifting session w/ James. This one's a tandem, so I got to work with Barbara. 4 sets of 8 reps @ 135 lbs is apparently my working weight now. I also remember 65 lbs on the squat and press this time. There was other stuff; maybe I should write these down one day.
- 1 hour horseback riding lessons. Lots of trotting, this time with feet outside the stirrups, so lots of hip adduction work in addition to the gluts, calves, core, and lower back conditioning.
Saturday:
- 2 hours of paint ball. You wouldn't think it'd be such cardio, but it totally is!
- 30 min of dancing. Okay, not that much dancing, but there was lots of other stuff to do that took precedence. Heh.
The net result? Well, I'm not down in weight, but I'm 4 inches thinner in my measurements. (Not just the waist; apparently, you count up all the inches from the 3 major areas: hips, waist, bust.) I'm stronger now, I can tell that. We did an old upper body routine today, and I flew through it. And, really, 135 as a working weight is more than I've ever done before, so I know the muscles are there.
You know, what I really need to do is watch my intake. I had a conversation with
disoculated about how unfair it is that we're working out this hard and can't eat anything and everything we want. But, the reality of it is that I can't. My body just has no metabolism to speak of, and while I'm pushing it, I don't think it's ever going to have the type of metabolism I want.
P.S. On the plus side of things, watching the Olympics has been fantastic for my body image. There's a wide variety of body types at the Olypmics, from the whip-cord lean sprinters to the heavily muscled weight lifters, from the upper body heavy swimmers to the tiny gymnasts. It was brilliant watching all these lovely, lovely women of different shapes and sizes. They are all at the top level of human athletic ability. They are all in shape. And that's beautiful. I'm quite comfortable with the thought that I will never be petite, and I'm very happy that my body is built to put on muscle.
P.P.S. Speaking of paint ball, we had a blast. Scariest/best moment of the game? The "dance of death" with
JakeThrash.
P.P.P.S. Happy birthday,
