My name is Remus Lupin, and I am one of the fifth year Prefects for Gryffindor at Hogwarts. As I'm sure you know, one of the functions of the prefects is to help younger students with any questions them may have during their terms.
Simon approached me the other day with a question I admit I never even remotely anticipated having to field while still a student. He apparently witnessed two older students being...affectionate, and when he asked me why the boy was "hurting" the girl, I found myself unable to explain further when he made it clear that, apparently, he does not understand what sex is.
I feel that this falls outside the rubric of my responsibilities as a prefect; it is not, that is, my place to teach your son such an important life lesson. I did, however, want to draw this to your attention, and let you know that I have your son's best interest at heart. He does not know that I am writing to you.
Thank you for your time and attention, and if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.
Sincerely yours,
