At the suggestion of Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, I am writing to you at the Werewolf Registry in order to provide you with my recollection of events of the night of 18 November, 1975. Witnessing my testimony is the aforementioned Headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
On the night in question I was escorted to my regular transformation room, a site which has served me well until now, and had been known of only by myself, Albus Dumbledore, Nurse Poppy Pomfrey, Professors Filius Flitwick and Minerva McGonagall, and dormmates James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, and Sirius Black. After the routine, careful check of all security charms, I was left alone as per usual to wait for moonrise.
My transformation occurred without incident, and though I remember little, I do have the vague recollection of smells, which tell me I remained in the same room the entire night. I also remember the surprising scent of human flesh at some point during the night. As the wolf, I could not identify them by name, but I believe there were two or three distinct people in the area.
I awoke in the morning feeling tired and achy, but not more so than usual. I was, perhaps, a bit hungier than I normally am, but I had not been feeling well the night before and had only eaten a small dinner, and so this wasn't that surprising.
When Madam Pomfrey came to escort me back to the infirmary, I was very surprised to see the Headmaster with her. He explained what had happened, that Severus Snape had learned of what and where I was, and had tried to get in, but that he was stopped by James before the wolf could attack him. I was, to put it mildly, shocked. I later learned that it was Sirius who told Severus how to get past the security charms and obstacles. I swear to you today that I had no prior knowledge or inkling that such actions would take place, and that had I heard about it I would have done everything in my power to prevent it from happening.
Obviously if you feel that I am deserving of punishments for the actions of the night in question, I will accept them humbly and as pennance for the risky situation I put all my fellow students in by simply attending school with them and remaining close to the grounds on the full moon nights. I am deeply sorry that anything like this happened, and I am ashamed that someone I consider a friend would consider this a wise course of action.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Co-signed, in witness thereof,
