well, if you are worried about "1984", come to Germany. Our lovely Home Secretary is planning to send trojans around the countries email addresses in order to be able to sneak around our computers. All in the name of anti-terrorism of course. Also, the phrase "innocent until proven guilty" is not meant to be taken seriously in case of terrorists. He wants to rebuilt our state into a "prevention" and "security" state.

Here is a list of all his initiatives:

* finger prints stored in a national data base
* biometric data on our identity cards and pass ports
* collecting data from our road toll system (works via satellite, so far only in lorries)
* secret online searches of private computers
* preventive tracers on telephones
* tracers in apartments, houses, telephones, video cameras etc
* release of flight data to the US (they can store them for 30 years)
* internet data is to be stored by the providers for 6 months and have to be released if necessary
* shooting down airplanes if in hands of terrorists
* network of data of 38 agencies

Luckily, so far, some of them are still not in accordance with our constitution, but I'm sure, before long, he will have sorted that problem as well.

So, here we go, we already live in a police state, there is no doubt about it.

Also, if I ever wanted to work as a teacher (civil servant status) for the Bavarian government (which is about the last thing I want to do), I would have to be Baptised again!!

So who are the fanatics now?!?!

Those sound awfully familiar. And we don't even have a constitution that has to be got round. Where are you on snooping on the contents of rubbish bins? Apparently now all bins are now being manufactured with chips to monitor what is put in them.

Now that's just cynical!!

Actually, and this is not necessarily a bad thing, we have people walking around our neighbourhoods snooping around our bins, but, this is all hidden under environmental concerns.
Our bins get regularly checked for contents that should be in a different kind of bin, so if you bin a yoghurt pot and someone finds out, you're paying a heavy fine.

But that's an entirely different topic.
