I had a fun New Year. I invited over
pplfichi and
doseybat, along with a friend from TransLondon and my boyfriend
starrius, and we all played some games, as well as eating some food, drinking alcohol and toasting in the New Year. It was a suitably low-key event, since I didn't have the energy to do much, and organised at more or less the last minute.
doseybat and
pplfichi had brought over Cards Against Humanity, which went down well.
starrius won that, despite never having played before, and we all came in joint second/last (depending on how you look at it). I've played it once before and it cane be a bit of a fun game, but I played one or two things that had me going straight to hell. But then, that's the point, and at least once I thought I was going to hell only to be outplayed by everyone else.
doseybat went home and we moved into playing Forbidden Desert, which
starrius had bought me for Christmas. It's a cooperative game, in which all of us race to rebuild a mythical solar powered flying machine after our helicopter crashed in the desert while a storm rages. There are many ways to lose the game, but only one way to win it, which we did manage to do. Broadly, my friend and
pplfichi played the navigator/climber combo, the navigator using their special ability to move the climber while the climber used their special ability to carry the navigator. I was the explorer and I ranged, exploring sites in hard to reach corners of the board while
starrius was the water-bearer and kept me topped up with water because I was vulnerable to the sun, as well as helping the other two. Certainly a game that's well recommended.
After that, we broke up and all went our respective ways,
starrius spending the night, thankfully at my mother's request, for snuggles.
