A Few Small Things

So far the computer recasing has been working well. I replaced my processor with another from the computer whose case I was borrowing. This one had a much larger heatsink, and even though the computer, cased up, is as hot as my previous one was, and I still need to get more fans, the heatsink alone makes sure that my processor is idling at 10 degrees C below what it previously was, and as a result the whole system is much more stable. The heatsink I had really is quite puny, being no large than a cbe with a small fan on the top. Such a small change makes me wonder why I didn't do this years ago. On the other hand, my whole computer had screws missing and poor build quality which is just endemic of the complete lack of pride or care I showed for anything during the last few years. Although it was painful to do so, and although I'm likely to replace this computer soon, I'm glad I had a chance to straighten it out and improve it like I should have done. It also gives me some space to sort through the software, which is going to be another painful trip down memory lane, as I have software dating from my second computer and possibly some stuff from my first.

My Wikipedia shock therapy (economics) article was reviewed in the middle of July as part of the Wikipedia economics project for improving economic articles. It got graded as Starter, which is just above Stub. It was also given a Medium importance label. I'm not entirely sure about either of these. I've written loads of information. The article is far from complete, which counts against me, but it is well referenced, which is one of the criteria for awarding higher grades. Unless I really screwed up the referencing, I feel I should get a higher grade. But, no, no one is going to actually tell me what I've done right/wrong. It's far more fun to criptically award me grades and let me figure it out for myself.

Also, I'm not sure about the medium important tag. Shock Therapy is one of those weird articles: economically, it's not important as it's an argument about a detail, so medium is fair. However, this detail has affected the lives of hundreds of millions (maybe billions) of lay-people and as a result, could also be justified for the highest level of importance. It's that reason that I'm spending so much time trying to get a balanced and fair article to replace the biased advocating piece of crap that was there before. Especially as Google returns it was the first hit on a search engine and there is only one other useful website that defines it.

I also went up to Bozenia's yesterday to keep Ania company (she had a cold) and to reset the router so that we could get the router details back (for some reason, I didn't keep them and Bozenia lost them). Anyway, I rectified that but, unfortunately, I couldn't help Ania get her other devices on-line (getting the wireless key was part of the point). For whatever reason, the Linksys WRT160N router I bought doesn't work very well, and there are many other reports on-line of people having similar problems, so don't ever buy that model. I also upgraded Bozenia's computer with memory, which improved the performance a lot, so at least I achieved something.
