Aaaargh. I wrote a comment about pointers in this entry in the cpp community. I wrote examples that aimed to show what was going on, rather than how to use pointers. Since then, I have been roundly informed by no less than 3 people that my code is a very bad example of how to use pointers and been lambasted for bad code. No one has asked me if I think the code is good (I do not), just assumed I'm an idiot (and unemployed in one comment). This is apart from missing the whole teaching aspect of the code, of course.
