That's really very interesting. Thanks to both of you for making the in-process version available! I'm not really involved in slash in any way except as an observer, but I've always wondered, considering the lavish praises some authors give their beta readers, exactly what kind of feedback they were getting. Personally, I love having my papers handed back to me covered in red, but I can't help but be surprised at just how *thorough* that beta is!
In any case, I'm a huge fan of your writing and anything that makes you happier with your fics increases my chances of reading them so bravo to you both.
Yeah, ivorygates is a pearl of great price -- by which I mean I have put big fat glommy claims all over her and will not be letting her go anytime soon. Sometimes my stories just require a light go-over for spelling/grammar/stupid mistakes, but this happened to be one of the ones that really needed an immense amount of work, and, well, I figured I'd share it so people could see what kind of things needed pointing out and logical help and etc.
If nothing else, it's a good way of showing that I take my own write-don't-edit advice sometimes ;)
I almost certainly don't have time to read this today, but I am bookmarking and coming right the hell back, because I am fascinated by the editing process, and how it ties in to writing, and - yes. Thank you for sharing!
this makes me want to get back into writing :-) it's always interesting to see the process people go through to get a piece of writing into shape. thanks for posting this.
See, I always ask people to be brutal with my writing when I ask for beta, because I always know there's a better story lurking in there, and finding someone who'll believe me is awesome ;)
It'd be a hell of a lot of work to get the various drafts into shape for posting, but I think people would find it really fucking cool. I'll do the gruntwork if you don't mind ...
And yes! You did a fantastic job with the beta on this; it would have sucked if you hadn't. *g*
