Jumping the gun on the news post a bit ....
...since this is so fucking cool and I've wanted to tell y'all the minute it goes live. Which it has!
I've spent the past two days talking about how fandom has given me so many strong, smart, amazing women in my life, and we're in National Women's History Month, and starting this month, LJ is offering a special "Charity V-Gift". When appropriate, we'll be offering a special V-Gift for certain months -- this month Women's History, next month Earth Day, etc -- and all proceeds from the sale of that V-Gift will go to a charity we select as appropriate for the theme of that month. We've got a list of about six criteria for charity choice, but we're basically looking for global, far-reaching organizations that are concentrating on long-term systemic change to help heal the world around them.
This month, the charity we've chosen is Women for Women International, a grass-roots organization that provides relief, support, and education for women in war-torn regions worldwide. And I wish I could send one of these to each and every one of you, because it's just that cool -- it is, in essence, a mini-donation to people who are trying to make the world better, on behalf of the friend you send it to. I can't send one to all of you, but I can send some, and let y'all know about them so you can send some of your own :)
(This is not the only cool charity thing we're doing this month! But I need to save at least some surprises for the news post.)
