One Gripe, One Question

Primus: A Gripe

I admit it, I get a sick glee out of reading the Dawker, Perez Hilton, Defamer and The Superficial blog feeds (and thank you, Google Reader for making is so damn easy). But there is something that's really starting to burn me up.

If you've been following the gossip at all you might know that Lindsey Lohan is now dating and possibly engaged to NY DJ Samantha Ronson. While not official "out" the two are clearly a couple. Publicity stunt or not, I don't really care. What I do care about is the constant references to LEZlo and saMAN, Lezbo-Lindsey and the scores of other derogatory appellations that are flying around from authors. Now, to be fair we also hae 'Sluttyenna Miller' (after her topless pics of her Italian romp w/ the very married Balthazar Getty), so it's not like they're exactly discriminating with the name calling. Still, it's really starting to burn me. Yes, ok, she's a lesbian (or acting like one for the cameras). Can we please come up with some different slurs that are actually based on her bad behavior (which can be HELPED) instead of her orientation (which can't)?

I'm probably not articulating this clearly but it's been a long day here at work.

Secundus:

So the Olympics are almost upon us and Beijing, China is ground zero. I am not too pleased with this as China's human rights record is shitty and I don't think the Olympic Committee should be encouraging their economy by flinging billions of tourism dollars at it. It's like silently condoning torture and oppression. And Communism (remember when that was a dirty word?).

So my question is this: What repercussions, if any, do you think the Beijing games will have on China's situation in global politics? Have any athletes boycotted yet? Will more light be shed on Chinese human rights violations? What about repercussions from poor air quality and therefore environmental policy and impact.

The whole thing feels like a powderkeg and I want to know which buts you think are prime for explosion.

Now... back to Motorola, work and the grind. Good evening.
