Why yes, I do more than watch DVDs on my PS2.

Halfway through 'The Machinist' (OMFG emaciated Christian Bale = scary) and taking a break from the suspense to opine that Indigo Prophecy will change the face of console gaming. Finally, after all this time a game that focuses on plot and story as opposed to blowing shit up. Now, don't get me wrong. I love to throw in GTA 3 and kills cops as much as the next gal after a particularly tough day. But games that rely on hair-trigger reflexes or repetitive battles really just can't engage me. I'm psyched to see a development in the whole player-driven plot category. I've linked to the official Atari site for the game but their write-up doesn't do it justice. I originally heard about it in Game Informer and their review/interview is much more comprehensive and engaging.

I've always enjoyed games more for the plot they offer than any aspect of gameplay (perhaps why I was (am?) such a fan of the Gabriel Knight and Kings' Quest games. I'm looking forward to games driven less by killing and maiming and more by decision making (much like the Choose Your Own Adventure books of yore). Perhaps this just puts me more firmly in the 'female' demographic of gamers but I don't mind. I want the industry to cater to me and my gaming desires. I have disposable income and I'm more than willing to spend it. The corporations just have to realise and capitalise on that fact.

Right. Back to skeltal Christian Bale now.
