A study in contrasts

You know, I'm so out of touch with Western music that I didn't even realize that Ami Suzuki's new single, "Potential Breakup Song", was a cover of a hit from this year.  I just listened to Aly & AJ's original version, and it's actually not much different from Ami's.  It continues her current electro-pop kick, but sadly SUGIURUMN is no Yasutaka Nakata when it comes to production.  He doesn't do much to put his stamp on the source material.

But how about that PV?  Ami looks fabulous, preening and smiling at the camera like the little sexpot she is ... and then they cut away to footage from some cheapo horror B-movie.  There are songs that would jive with a horror tie-in, maybe a moody ballad or some angsty rock, but this dance-floor pop is just no.  And besides being completely jarring, this is clearly one Japanese horror flick that won't be getting the American remake treatment anytime soon.  I absolutely LOVE the ginormous scissors the girl is running around with.  Seriously, they're almost bigger than she is, and look to be made out of aluminum.  She's more liable to poke out her own eye than kill anyone with that thing.  Pretty much the scariest thing in that movie is the other actress' gigantic lemur eyes, which put even Ayumi's to shame.  You just *know* they're unnatural.
