Fic: One Plus One (Kingdom Hearts)

Title: One Plus One

Summary: There's a lot of reasons Isa keeps Lea close, but one above all else.
If anyone had asked Isa why he was friends with Lea, he had a number of short reasons to choose from.
He could say that it was because Lea was always entertaining, with his bad jokes and tendency to ramble about any and every random topic that sprang to mind.
He could say it was because Lea passed him notes that kept him struggling not to laugh even in the most boring of classes.
He could say it was because Lea was always there for him, someone he could turn to without fail.
He could say it was because Lea shared (and actively encouraged) his growing addiction to sea salt ice cream.
All of these reasons were equally true. What was more true, however, was precisely what he would never admit: that it was because Lea was like him, or at least the side of him he would never show. Lea, with fire burning under his skin and behind his eyes, was as wild as the Isa that fought tooth and nail beneath the surface. Lea, with all his crazy plans and madcap schemes, was everything that the Isa behind the calm mask wanted to break free to be.
Everyone said that Isa was destined to go on to Great Things; Lea, on the other hand, was a Lost Cause. As much as he cared for his friend, Isa knew that this was essentially the truth.
Even then, he couldn’t help but envy him and the freedom he took for granted. More than a little. If he couldn’t have it himself, he should at least be able to enjoy it through someone else though, right?
And Isa always achieved what he set his sights on.
