no I don't know why I never had one before aside from Rin's brilliant lack of social skills ever.

Rin first talked to Patchouli during a conversation about dreams and what they meant, and ended up eventually becoming tutored by the magician in reading and writing. Rin appreciated Patchouli's help immensely, and started to see her as a friend, even if Patchouli was not really the type to make friends with people that easily. There was a bit of conflict at one point, when Rin finally asked Patchouli if they could be friends, as Patchy shoved Rin away and slammed the door in her face in response; Rin was confused and upset by this, as she wasn't sure what she had done wrong. After awhile, though, Patchouli amended things with Rin, and now the two are friends, even if the word is an awkward term for Patchouli.

Rin's brother, her twin, that she had never known in person until he came to Mayfield. Previously, they had only spoken to each other in dreams, which stopped initially when Rin arrived in this town, which caused her to start to doubt he was really real. Now that he's here, though, she very much believes he exists, and very much believes in the idea that the two can go home together, and that she'll no longer have to sing for the dragon. Pretty much, Len's the center of Rin's world.
