What types of synesthesia do you have? auditory>tactile
How long have you known you had it/how did you find out? this was actually quite recent, june of 2009. i was in the car with a friend talking music. he had never heard Animal Collective before (who i am deeply and passionately in love with haha). i tried to describe their music to him...all the textures their music creates. he just looked at me like a was crazy and asked, "do you know what synaesthesia is?" at the time i knew that some people saw colors when they heard music, but i didn't realize it wasn't normal for people to feel physical sensations when listening to music.
What do you DO (job/study/hobbies)? Does your synesthesia affect this at all? haha i'm a double major in music education and music theory (my focus is on bassoon). it doesn't affect me too music. the sensations i get from playing in band and orchestra are vague compared to listening to music with electronic/sampled sounds (I get the most intense sensations from Animal Collective, Radiohead, and High Places, so naturally they're my favorite bands). I will say, though, they when i attempt to compose i get stuck on certain combinations of sounds because they feel good.
Any other good synesthesia based stories/experiences? i saw animal collective at Lollapalloza this past summer. holy smokes...by far the closest thing to a religious experience i've ever had haha. it felt AMAZING.
Suggestions? Information? Ideas? no, i'm sorry!
Any chance you're based in/near Chicago or DC? i am! i live in the chicago area, but i'm away at school right now. feel free to contact me! radioburnv1@gmail.com
