So, my old roommate and I went out the bar the other weekend and the overhead radio/jukebox/whatever ya wanna call it, was on. He kept saying, "oh, I love this song!". I couldn't really relate. I haven't really listened to the radio lately. "Why", you ask? I'm sorry, its all shit nowadays. Ok, maybe a little harsh...not all shit, but come on...REALLY?
It then went to the car. I was driving that night and had my handy-dandy Ipod Tune Talk thingy. Which I LOVE, by the way. I have the 120 GB Ipod. I got while I was in China. Anyways, being that I'm an opera singer, trying to be, I have a TON of classical music on my player. I got slack for that. So, I took the Ipod and put on one of my favorite upbeat, good time groups. The "Scissor Sisters"! Love 'em, if you haven't heard of 'em...CHECK IT OUT! So, we're in my car, listening to my music and it was from the first album. This is a few years old now. I know this. He proceeds to school me that i'm not up to date on things and I need to revamp my Ipod.
Umm...I know it shouldn't have urked me as bad as it did, but REALLY...music. Its part of who and what makes up you in its own idyosyncratic way.
I just don't care for the music of today. Nothing to be amazed with.
I was on YouTube earlier today looking up random clips of artists from my playlists of my Ipod and it hit me...Whatever happened to music?
I like a little bit of everything too. From Mozart, Donizetti, Bellini, Puccini, E. Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, "Earth, Wind, & Fire", Metallica, Led Zepplin, Deftones, Save Ferris, No Doubt, Mamas & Papas, Don Mclean, etc...the list goes on and on and on...but, for the exception of a few guilty pleasures, they all seemed to REALLY have a true talent to offer. Not always the pretty voices, or the most marketable physically speaking.
Anyway...whatever happened to music?
