Holy mother of Christ, how fucking good are the Clash?
Answer: Really, really good. Everytime I listen to Sandinista, it just blows me away. Yes, there's some "filler" on the record (and I have a built-in bias against double albums, as I have yet to run into one that really needed to be a double album. If the Beatles couldn't pull it off, what makes other artists think they can?). But just the sheer range they were trying for is admirable. And it really says something when a band's failures are more interesting than most other bands' achievements.
