Folks, when you write a status update on Facebook mentioning that you or a friend or family member will be traveling away from home, don't make the post public, make it friends only. People have had their houses burgled because they or someone else posted on Facebook, Twitter, and other places, that no one would be at home.
That goes for geo-location automatic posts on social media.
Post smart! Be smart! Don't post in public where you or someone else will be - especially during the holidays.
It won't happen to you, of course... until it does. You might be posting safe, but your friends or family are posting that you are out of town, or will be in their town over the holidays. Make sure to tell people to sew up the leaks. Not everything has to be in the public domain.
