in a day trip, what would you show someone who's NEVER been to new york city? (besides a broadway show, obviously)

(sidenote: somehow my brother's obnoxious dog was able to sneak upstairs tonight and pee right under the computer desk, in the hope that i would step in it as i just did, i'm sure. i hate dogs.)

Actually I hear the MOMA's kinda lame right now. I don't know what's showing there, though. Try the Natural History Museum, they've got a thing on Darwin and a butterfly conservatory. In addition to the many fine museums, well actually, I usually first think of places to eat. John's Pizza on Bleecker is a real New York place, and it's gotten positive reviews when I bring out-of-towners. It's brick-oven, and no slices, you have to eat there and you have to order a pie.

Let's see, what else to do in this cold... there's shopping in SoHo... Where is this person from? If ze has never been to an H&M (and if ze likes that kind of thing), go there. The one on 34th (there are two, the westernmost one is better I think) or the one on 51st.

OH. Do a West Village walking tour. Walk across Bleecker (my favorite street) and see how it changes as you go.If you go east to west you can finish off at the famous Magnolia Bakery for cocoa and their famous cupcakes (which I don't like very much, but they're featured in that "Lazy Sunday" video so your friend might get a kick out of it. It gets busy though, so depending on when you get there you might not get to sit, but there are plenty of places to get cocoa if that happens--also if you go west to east, which is how I usually do it.

More if I think of it.
