I've been asked the following question a lot over the last week:" Where does the name "Soap Angel" come from, anyway?"
I get asked this question from time to time, but over the last week, I've been asked this almost every day via e-mail, and so I thought I might post the definitive answer for all asundry, in case there was anyone else out there who wanted to know, but didn't want to ask.
So here goes.
When I first heard the name "Castiel" it made me think of soap, and soap bubbles, and bubble baths, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. So then, I'm in the store, buying bath soap, and there on the shelf are bars of this soap:
If you'll notice, the name of type of soap "Castile" is just two little letters off from "Castiel" and so thusly the explanation for my instant association between Castiel and SOAP can be explained. I take full responsibility for my consistent and irritating use of "Soap Angel" in place of "Castiel" in my reviews.
My dislike of the Soap Angel's character and storyline stems from the fact that his actions have all but replaced Sam and Dean as heroes in their own story, and that I cannot abide.
Interestingly enough it was pointed out to me today by one of my readers (thank you, Lisa), that I am not alone in my dislike for this character. Apparently, on the CW forum, there was thread today where I was applauded not only for my dislike but also for
my efforts to express that dislike in my review. I love it when people think I'm right, and I love it more when my writing makes people laugh. Thank you,
People on the Thread in the Castiel Skeptics Society (Please Read First Post), I really appreciate the support! It's nice to know I'm not alone, not alone, so not alone. Not anymore.
