This is so wonderful. It's a poignant vignette, yes, but I love all the tiny observations about the entire gang here, and Djaq's reflections (and her obvious contentment) with her new life among this motley crew of Englishmen.

Thank you also for giving Djaq a chance to console Will for the loss of his parent, something the show never thought to do properly. I feel like I've been given a wonderful holiday present!

(Btw, it would be great if you could link this up at udontknowdjaq too!)

I'm delighted that you like this! There was a lot of gang stuff that I was nervous about getting right, and of course wanting to show Djaq becoming comfortable in her new life. It was kind of fun to think about how things might be progressing between her and Will at this point. I can imagine her being a little uneasy with his intensity, maybe not consciously acknowledging his emotions, but caring about him and wanting to be kind. I'm glad you enjoyed that small moment of connection between them. I will try to link to udontknowdjaq--just have to remember how to do that. Thanks for the suggestion! And thank you so much for the comments!

I thought this came across perfectly, so well done!

And thanks for linking the fic at UDKD. Djaq appreciates the signal boost, lol.

I can't say enough good things about this fantastic fic. I've started to comment on it three times now and each time I end up deleting it because I feel like I'm rambling like a fool. I just can't put into words how brilliant every aspect of it is or how it was just exactly what I needed to read right now.

The characters are spot-on and I love how you've chosen to fore-go the daring adventures and sweeping romance here and simply focus on the subtleties of having them interact during their "down time" instead. Djaq's keen powers of observation make her the perfect main character and I really felt like I was sitting there in that cave, right alongside the gang, listening to tales of Christmases past.

This is the kind of "character analysis" fic that made me fall in love with fan fiction in the first place. I shall consider this one of my Christmas presents, lol. Thank you for writing it and for linking it to UDKD.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Your comments have made me so happy! They're not rambling at all--not that I would mind in any case. :) It’s such a great compliment that this story was what you needed to read right now, and I’m delighted that you connected with it. I’ve never written from Djaq’s point of view before, and I’m glad to know that worked as a way of showing the others in that setting. Please, definitely consider it a Christmas gift! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and thank you very, very much for your comments!

*applauding* I absolutely loved this. Just a very moving piece. The whole set up was brilliant: Djaq's first Christmas, the gang in the cave telling their stories, and then the mistletoe right at the end. Let's say I did a lot of *squeeing*, haha! Really, this was just so moving from start to finish. Beautifully wrote, and perfectly crafted.
