Chapter 8
"Oh great! Now what?" Nate said. They were standing in the courtyard of the Castle. On all four sides were smooth walls that would not allow them to climb over them. They saw that their only way out was to go into the depths of the Castle. The walked out into the center of the courtyard and nothing happened. The sun went down and all swiftly became dark and cold. They heard the sound of stone breaking apart and turned toward the gates. The head of the dragon that they had seen outside reared over the side of the wall and looked them up and down. A deathly look spread across its face and it climbed over the wall and looked at the people before him.
"Oh no! Not him!" Benji said. He looked at the dragon and it looked back at him and his friends. It then got ready to fry them with its fire. The group of friends quickly ran out of the way once they saw that the fire was coming out of its mouth. The place that they had been standing was charred black. Another ball of fire and another mad dash to get out of the way.
"This hot-dog cooker is starting to annoy me!" Nate said.
"I agree! Time to put its fire out!" Julia said. They got up from were they lay and then shouted the names of their powers.
"WINDS OF CHAOS!" Nate shouted. His powerful beam of light shot towards the dragons' mouth.
"WATERS OF DEATH!" Julia shouted. She let the arrow go and it was immerced in Nate's powerful beam of light. It shot towards the dragon and entered its mouth just as another fireball spewed from its giant mouth, but one never came. Smoke as dark as black ink came out of its mouth and it turned and fled in terror.
"So you have defeated my dragon, but you won't defeat me! I will crush you all and take back what I gave to you." Moeton said to them from upon the wall that he was standing on.
"Moeton, why? Why have you turned against us? What have I done or anyone else done to make you turn against your friends?" Benji shouted up to him. A snicker appeared in Moeton's voice.
"The White side of Magic was not enough for me. I wanted complete power and with the Black side of Magic, I have gained that!" He called down to them. They turned when they saw him vanish and ran to the steps that led up to another door. They opened it and walked inside. Inside it was another maze of turns and doors and hallways. Swiftly they entered the Castle. They were ever alert and ever ready to defend themselves against any onslaught. They had gone through about ten different rooms and hoping that with each one opened, they would fine Moeton or some clue as to where he was. Then it struck Benji.
"He is not in the lower part of this Castle." He said to his friends.
"What do you mean?" Brian asked him.
"Simple. He learned his magic from Merlin. Merlin lives north of here, so I think he might be in the Northwinds Tower. He is sending some form of evil to Merlin's home and so needs to be in the Northwinds Tower to do so otherwise it might go somewhere else and that tower is the only one that goes above the castle walls. He'd need to be in there to watch us more clearly and to give him more time to get away." Benji said.
"Then let's just fly up there!" Sapphire said. Benji shook his head no.
"That would be far too dangerous even for me. I don't want any of you to be hurt like I was back in the forest.......Anyway we need to go up to that tower through this cursed palace. It is a good thing I have a map of this place." Benji said. The others looked at him in amazement.
"How did you get the map of this place? You didn't just ask them for it, did you?" Nate asked his brother. Benji shook his head no and pulled out of a small leather bag a piece of cloth. He then pointed down the hallway.
"That passage will take us where we need to go." He said. They turned toward it and ran down the passage. Soon they had to stop for they were blocked by a solid wall of rock. Benji came up behind Nate and they all turned to him. To their left was the only way to go, but he did not say to go that way. Instead he looked up at the ceiling of the passageway and then looked to the map that he held.
"Above us in the entrance to the Northwinds Tower. Be carefull for there may be a guard other than that of which we have already met with." Benji said. He then jumped up to a secret opening in the ceiling and opened a trapdoor. The others quickly followed him once he was inside. They closed the door and looked around. In front of them lay a long and twisting stairway leading up. They looked at each other and then began the long climb upward. They had barely gone the first mile above the ground and all save Benji were tired and sore. They stopped for a moment to rest. Then they began again. Six times they had to stop and let their lungs get used to the air pressure. Slowly they reached the top of the tower and above them they could hear someone talking with someone else.
"I want you and Fireockin to go back down to ground level and rally the guards. Have them search this place up and down even if they have to tear it apart! I want those people found and I want them ALIVE! I have some business with one of them. Once I am done, though, you and your friends can kill them any way you please." The voice that they heard was that of Moeton's.
"Yes sire! It shall be done and then our long awaited triumph shall be realized!" They now heard Draconeis's voice. Now they heard Oakon's:
"Only if you and Fireockin can find those pesky kids!"
"Oh shut up! Of coarse Draconeis and I will find them!" Fireockin said.
"I certainly hope so! One might think that you want them to get away and rally their forces against us!" Brayockin said. The others laughed at this, but Fireockin did not find it funny.
"Take this you impudent dog!" He shouted and Benji and his friends heard Fireockin's metal-covered hand clang against the metal face guard of Brayokin's helmet. Then they heard the dull thud of a metal-clad body hitting the wooden floor over their heads. They then heard Moeton's voice:
"Save it for our foes! Now go!" He said. The group of friends grew white as sheets when they heard foot steps coming toward them. They had no where to go and so they had to wait for their doom where they were. Suddenly they heard Moeton's voice:
"Not that way! Out the window like I showed you! I want to make sure that the magic spells I have given you are doing their job!" They then heard the foot steps going away from them and soon all was quiet. They waited for another moment before Benji quietly pushed open the trap door above them.
Chapter 9
They quietly climbed into the room that Moeton was in and then Benji shut the door silently as a ant walking across a dried leaf. To their right they saw a strange device that looked to be a model of the solar system, but instead of planets there were little figures that resembled Benji and his friends and Lord Cyclone and his friends as well. Each person stood where a planet would be or where a moon would be. Sage-Light was in the very center of the device. To their left were shelves and shelves like the ones that they had all seen in Moeton's study, but upon them were figures like the ones inside of the device that was to their right. In front of them they could see four windows facing the four directions of the winds. Moeton was looking out of the north window, his back to them. Benji took a step and then another until he stood right in the center of the room. His friends lined up behind him in the same way that the pins for a bowling game are set up. "Looking for us?" He asked the black and blue robed back of his friend. Moeton turned around and looked at Benji and his friends. He laughed.
"Fool! You are the fool here! You should never have come up here to find me. You shall die for your mistake and so will your friends." He said.
"Oh go suck an egg!" Cilth said. Moeton looked at her and raised his right hand to his face. A cruel red light shone forth from his hand. He then lunged his right hand forward and the light shot out toward Cilth. She gasped and held her hands in front of her to try to protect herself, but she didn't need to. Benji had blocked the attack.
"I don't think so!" He said and forced the beam back at Moeton. Moeton could not keep it from hitting him in the face and he screamed in terror and was flung back into the wall behind him. Glass broke and the pieces lay all over the floor. Moeton got up and was attacked by Benji. He blasted him with another bolt of energy, but this one was pure white.
"Moeton, come back to us. I beg of you to turn from this evil and force it from your mind!" Benji said. Moeton laughed and then blocked Benji's attackm, which sent him reeling into the wall behind him. Moeton then blasted Benji a second time with his energy and Benji screamed and hollered in pain. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! Do you really want to kill your friend?!" He shouted at him. A snarl appeared upon his face and Moeton turned the energy on even more. By this time, if Benji wasn't wearing his Armor, he would have been dead. With his left hand Moeton pointed at the strange model that the group had seen before the fighting started. He shouted to it:
"Time!" A great blue light shot forth from it and a pool of light was seen to all the eyes of the people in that room. Moeton stopped attacking Benji and he fell to the floor holding his chest. The wind picked up speed and soon it was like standing in a roaring gale! Moeton ran through the light and was gone, but the portal stayed open and quickly began to flicker.
"What is that thing?" Brian shouted. Benji stood up and yelled to him above the wind.
"It's a time pool! Quickly! Go through it! We need to stop Moeton before he destroys anything on the other side of it!"
"But we don't know where it will take us!" Brian shouted back.
"We must worry about that latter! Come on!" Benji said and jumped into the portal. The others quickly did the same. They Benji saw a change in the person that he had thought was Moeton. He knew who the person was. The person was massive figure. He was wearing an Armor of Darkness. It was solid black and on the back of the person were two swords, the blades grey with the power of evil. The handles and hilts were made of a jet black metal. The helmet of the Armor was black and had two blood-red horns that curved into cresents that faced each other. The face guard was drawn and the only part of the face that one could see within the depths of this helmet were two blood-red slits that were the eyes. The shoulder guards were three feet long and each one had a picture of a human skull upon it. The chest guard was what was most impressive about this Armor of Darkness. It was made so that the chest muscles stood out and so that the stomach muscles also stood out some. A large black cape adorned the shoulders of the figure. Huge hands with claws on the ends of the fingers hooked uponthe swords handles. The legs and feet were both covered by guards that had spikes coming out of them. The ones on the shins went upwards, while the ones on the feet went flat out from the feet. Benji knew that the person who had just vanished from their sights was Evil himself, and that Moeton was dead. Evil had taken control of his body and had slowly shapped it into the person he was himself. When that happened, Moeton was killed and Evil lived. Benji also knew that Evil was only using a disguise of Moeton. He was pretending to by him so that he would be killed by Benji!
Chapter 10
They were all bathed in a bright and dark blue light that seemed to swirl around them. Their vision was blurred and they could not hear very well. Soon their vision returned and they could see that they were standing on top of a building. Then their hearing returned and they all heard the last thing that they had thought that they would hear.......the sound of automobiles! They looked around and saw that Evil was not in sight. Nor was anyone else from where they had come from. "I don't like the looks of this place. Where are we Benji?" Ilonton said.
"I don't believe it! That fool! I knew he had something up his sleeve! I should have known that he would bring us here!" Benji said to himself.
"Hey, Benji! Where are we?!" Cilth shouted at him.
"Huh? Oh, we are at my home. This is the planet Earth." Benji said. He heard Cilth gasp and turned to her. She had a look of shock and terror upon her face. Benji's eyes were blank as if he were in a state of blindness. He could hardly believe that Evil had brought them to his home planet. "Don't worry. We shall make it back to Zadonkon.....I hope." He said to her and she seemed to relax a little. Benji turned and looked out at the city they were in. He knew that it was his home town. He could see the old factory that once made cars and trucks to be sold all over the world. He saw the old hotel that once was very famous, but was now an abandoned building. He looked down at the street and then looked back to his friends.
"We should take our Armors off and not put them on until we need them. We must have secrecy with us. Evil probably already knows that we are here with him, but for those people who don't really know what will happen here, we can't let them find out." He said to his friends. They agreed to this and swiftly removed their Armors. Benji then tested the magic of Disguise. It was a spell that would make the person whom the spell had been cast upon look like anything that the caster wanted them to look like. Benji cast it and everyone stood in pants and either a long sleeved shirt or a tee-shirt. Ilonton looked very puzzled by them and so she asked Benji what he had done. He simply told her that in order to keep their true selves a secret, they had to look and act like normal Earthlings.
"I hope we won't have to fight our best friend here. This place looks too beautiful to be destroyed by the might of the Evil Magic." Cilth said. Benji breathed a deep sigh and looked back at her over his right shoulder.
"I know. I really hope that we can turn him back to our side without fighting so that my home will not be killed off." He said.
"It is time for the final fight, Benji. Good luck." Sage-Light said. They all stared across the land and looked for a second like statues, then they all jumped down the side of the building and landed calmly on the street below. They looked around and found that they had been standing on top of a Target store. Benji and his friends looked around and saw that they had not been seen by anyone. They walked away from the store as calmly as they could. Benji quickly took lead and led them all to his old home. Once they had reached it, they found that the windows had been boarded up and the door locked tight.
"So what are we going to do now?" Chuck said. A smile appeared upon Benji's face and so did one upon Nate's face. They led them to the side yard of the house and then looked around to make sure no one was watching them. Nate kicked at the dirt for a moment and exposed a wooden board. This he picked up and under it was a hole that seemed to go into the house.
"What the heck is that?!" He heard his mother's voice say. He looked at her and said:
"You guys didn't know about this, but Benji and I built these when you had left the house. They all lead under the house. There is one in every room."
Nate jumped down into the hole and was lost to their sight. He quickly came back and nodded up at Benji and his friends. Benji was the next one to enter the hole and was followed by his father and Brian. Soon everyone was inside of the hole. Benji then closed the wooden board over the hole and they were awash in darkness. He reached up to a part of the top of the tunnel and pulled a metal chain. Lights quickly snapped on. He noticed his mother give him a strange look, but he didn't mind. They made their way down to the end of the tunnel and found that it went all the way under the house. Benji thought that by now they had reached their bedroom. He found an old and rotten pole of wood and hit the floor above them. A door popped open and they could tell that they were under Benji's and Nate's bedroom. They quickly climbed out of the hole and stood in their room. All of the furniture was still where it should have been when they had left......
"Now what?" Cilth said.
"We go into the computer room." Benji said. He opened the door to their bedroom and faced a bull dog!
"Butch! I don't get it, why are you here when every exit and entrance to the house is locked and boarded up with wood?" Nate said to the dog.
"Who's there?!" They heard a gruff voice shout from the living room.
"Officer MacCane?" Benji called.
"Benjamin Phillips?" The voice called back. "Come out here now or I shall have you arrested for trespassing!" Benji looked at his friends and saw that they were a bit scared. He walked out into the living room with his brother and Brian following him. They faced a middle aged man in a police officer uniform. He had steel grey eyes and a beard to match. He had blond hair and a shocked look upon his face.
"Uh.....hi." Nate said to the man in front of them. The man opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He tried again and this time he was able to speak.
"I.......I.......I don't understand. What the hell are you and Brian doing here after being gone for two years?" The man said.
"It is.......well.....uh....oh, boy....a long story." Benji said.
"So? I have all the time in the world, kid." MacCane said.
"I thought so." Benji said. "By the way my parents are here as well." He turned toward his room and called to his friends and his parents. The first one to come was Butch followed Chuck and Julia and followed by them were the rest of the group. Mr. MacCane sat down on a dusty couch and everyone else found a chair to sit on. Once all were seated, Benji told of their story. He started with the very first time that his parents had beaten him and his brother and ended with the current events.
"So you see we are here to fight Evil and if we can't find him soon, Earth and every other solar system will be gone. Only darkness will reign." Nate said. Benji looked at the officer with eyes that showed nothing of what he was thinking of.
"Will you be able to help us find Evil and stop him from taking over this world and all others?" Benji asked him. The officer stroked his beard and thought.
"I know I might regret doing this, because this all sounds pretty crazy to me. Alright. Count me in." He answered after a moment of silence. He got up and then walked down the hallway. He then shouted to them: "Well? Are you guys coming or not?!" The group of people got up and walked over to him. He was seated in the computer room in front of computer. He had turned it on and was swiftly typing something.
"What are you doing?" Benji asked.
"I'm booting up the data files on your friend. You said in your story that in order to take over our world, this person needs what?" The cop asked.
"He needs to bring his palace here. We need to find any places in this city that he can use as a dimensional gateway. That way we know where to go and fight him. I know now that we cannot turn him back to the White side of Magic." Benji said.
"Got it!" MacCane said. The group stared at the screen while a map of the city appeared on the screen. In scrolled upward and then to the left. It then began to flip through several maps of the city from the time when it was built in seventeen fifty five until the present. It then stopped at the present-day map and an area began to blink in red. "Looks like the Great Mall of the Bay Area is the only place that your friend can use in this city. There are no other places in this state." He said to his new-found friends.
"Well Evil wouldn't want to use that area. It's too small for his needs and there would not be enough energy he would need to make the rip in space." Benji said. "He would have to find some place that is not as warm as this state though and he would also have to find a city in which it would be easy to get lost in."
"I'll ask the computer to look for those type of places." MacCane said. He typed a few words and then hit the enter key. In a moment the screen went to a map of Minnesota! It did the same thing it had done with the map before, but it had to look through each city first. When it had found the right one, they saw it was a map of Saint Paul. It scrolled to the right and then to the left and down a bit. Then an area began to blink in red.
"Oh great! I didn't think it would chose the whole city!" Nate said.
"Wow! Seems to me that he needs the entire worlds' energy!" MacCane said.
"How fast can we get there?" Brian asked the cop. He shrugged his shoulders.
"Wait. Before we even think about going, we need to find some building that can possibly be the place where Moeton would try to bring his palace into our world." Benji said. He looked to MacCane and he began typing on the keyboard. Soon the map flashed with red at the Twin Towers.
"Good, that's where we shall go. I hope we can beat Moeton there." Benji said to the group. They quickly left the room. Before they had all left the house, Benji's father turned to the officer in front of them.
"I want you to keep Butch for me and my boys." He said. The officer nodded and Butch jumped up to look into Chuck's eyes. Angus then stepped forward and said:
"Stay here Butch. You must stay here and guard this man with your life. Good luck my friend."
"Good luck to you and your team of fighters." The dog said. Benji smiled a knowing smile and the group swiftly left by the trap door in the childrens' room. Once outside, they saw a group of taxies pull up to the curb and they all got in them. Soon they were on a plane headed toward their final destination.
