Chapter 46

The power of the Staff of Darkness was no more! It was pushed back into the Staff of Darkness and then the color of the evil power turned from red to dark blue! The Second Evil tried to drop the hidious Staff of Darkness, but could not let go of it! A blue colored fire burned up the length of the Staff of Darkness. It burned until it had reached the end of the Staff that was held in the Second Evils' hand. It then turned to a brillant yellow flame and then it burned the body of the Second Evil. The Second Evil screamed and hollored in pain. He thrashed his arm wildly about desprately trying to free from his grasp the Staff that was consuming them both. The the flames changed to a bright blue color and the Second Evil froze dead in his tracks. His whole body was nothing but flames.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The Second Evil screamed his fury of being defeated and then his body erupted into a brillant twisting infurno of flames and steam from the volcano. The flames dance around in a clockwise direction and then quickly turned to a couter clockwise direction. Then the flames turned to a bright red. They died away and all that was left of the Second Evil was the ashes of his body. Benji stood where he was, frozen in time and space for a long moment, before he realized what had happend. He breathed heavily and then walked over to Ilonton. The ground underneath him suddenly lurched one way and then the other. The mountain was about to erupt! He sheathed his Sword of Crystal Light and then grabbed Ilonton by the left arm and picked her up. He placed her over his right shoulder and turned and ran from the chamber of fire.

He made his way into a tunnle that led up and within a few moments, the lava was after him. He could feelt he ground shaking and cracking under his feet. He then saw a light in front of him and he called all of the power that he had left within his battered body and raced for the light. He could feel the heat of the lava burning his back and then he was free from the mountain. He raced down it wildly and then he jumped the last few feet. He turned and saw the mountain erupt into a brillant display of lava and molten rock. He raced from the mountain and gained higher ground. He watched as the lava poured from the belly of the earth and then spilled, to give new life to the waste lands of the north. He breathed heavily for a moment and then felt a hand placed upon his left shoulder. He turned and saw that his brother was standing before him. His face was a bit cut up from the fighting that he had gone through, but he was alive and well. Benji looked out across the open plains of battle and saw the shredded and torn bodies of millions of people. Together, the two walked down to the plains and then Nate led his brother to a small tent of brown deer skin. Benji walked inside and then placed Ilonton upon a palet of straw and hey. He was sweating like a pig, but he didn't care. Then his brother led Benji off to another tent and there he left him to rest.

Never in all of his life was Benji ever glad to see a bed. He was tired. Physcially, mentaly, and emotionaly. He could barely take off his tattered and burned clothing. As he removed the great Sword of Light, a started to cough some. A small man of about five feet walked into his tent and then looked over to the palet of straw. Benji lay down and the man began to clean and dress his many burns and wounds that he had gotten. Benji barely managed to stay awake through the whole ordeal.

"Doctor.......my friends.....are they.......are.....they....." Benji tried to say something, but choked upon the words. He didn't like the feeling that was building up in his stomach and throat. He didn't want to be the last one in the quest to be alive and well.

"They are all safe and sound. The wolves were hurt badly during the first few hours of the war, but they'll live. The humans of Earth were also wounded, three very badly, but like the wolves, they shall live. The people of Zadonkon will also live. Only Gen was slightly wounded during the war. Everyone is alive and well. All fourteen of them." The doctor said to Benji. Fourteen? That would mean that Mr. Henson was not with the others!

"Mr. Henson, is he the only one that died?" Benji asked quickly.

"I don't know, son. You see I haven't heard the name of that man until now. I'm not even sure if he was with the other people that knew you." The doctor said. Benji lay down and fell to a deep sleep. He slept for that whole day and into the night. By morning, he had not come to at all. The doctor that had treated him began to worry a bit. He said to wait for another day and then he would proclaim him dead. Benjis' face was ashen. It had turned to a pale color the night after his treatment for the wounds he had suffered. By the third day after the fall of the Second Evil, the volcaon stopped erupting. It was also the same day that Benji came to. Nate was by his bedside. Benji slowly opened his eyes.

"Nate.....oh, God! I'm alive!" Benji said when he saw his brothers' face looking into his own. He slowly sat up, but then had to lay back down, for he had begun to feel light headed. He turned to face his brother.

"Nate, Mr. Henson....is he dead?" Benji asked his brother with large dark blue eyes. Nate smiled slightly.

"Far from it. When you left to gain that days' head start on us, we all stopped at a town some distance off the path that you had taken. Well during the night, Mr. Henson came to me and told me that he wanted to stay in the town and get them ready for battle should they need to fight. We let him go with no arguments. Also during that same night, Ilonton, left the group and somehow must have caught up to you or passed you by. We all gathered as many people as we could and then came here to fight. The rest I believe you know." Nate said softly. Benji nodded slightly. Nate stood up and then turned to leave his brother in peace.

He turned back to him and looked at him in his dark blue eyes for a moment. "Get some rest, Benji. When you are healed enough to leave this area, we shall all be going back to Ioaktiekon." Nate said. Benji slept that day and didn't wake until the early hours of dusk. When he opened his eyes, Ilonton was sitting by his bed. Benji sat up and looked over at her. Her purple eyes shone with guilt and Benji knew the reason.

"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. In a few more days, I'll be well enough to leave this area for good and then we can all go back to Ioaktiekon." Benji said.

"That's not the reason why I feel the way I do, great grandson of Hary Phillips. The reason is that I turned against you all and helped the forces that we were fighting against. I betrayed you all and for that I should be killed by the person that killed the Second Evil." Ilonton said.

"Whoa! What kind of talk is that?" Benji said. He looked at Ilonton in her deep purple eyes. "You had no control over what you did. The power of the Two Evils forced its way into your mind and heart thus turning you against what you knew to be right. They made you think that what you knew to be right was really false and what they were was what you were to think was right. They made you turn against us and not you choosing to do so. You shouldn't be so upset about that. I mean, hey, if you look at it this way....if you had chosen to be on the side of evil without them forcing you to do so, you would have been killed a long time ago. Don't worry about the evil that I fought. It's dead and won't ever come back. You and your world need not be afraid of it any longer." Benji said. Ilonton stared at him for a moment and then sighed. She smiled slightly and the smiled broadened. She chuckled softly for a seocnd and then looked at Benji once more.

"You are right, Benji. I was forced to do what I had done by the power of the Two Evils. I see that now. Thank you for saving me from the grasp of death. Thank you so much." Ilonton said. She rose to leave and Benji watched her go. In another few days he was able to travle back through the lands in which he had come through. After almost six months of travling, the group finally made it back to Ioaktiekon. Once they reached the gates of city, they were thrown wide and they all saw a large welcoming of peoples. There were the survivors of the war, the townsfolk, and many others that had come from all over the world to see the warriors of the fourth quest come home at last. Benji and his friends all proceed to the Palace of Peace. There they were greeted by the wizard Moeton. Hands were shook and then Moeton led the group to his study. There they all were seated quiclly upon wooden chairs. Moeton faced them all and then his gaze fell upon Benji and his brother. Moeton then stood up from where he was sitting.

"Benji and Nate Phillips, great grandsons of Hary Phillips, first Phillips to set foot upon this world and not to be the last of them, here me. An unexpected pair of visitors have come here to this world." Moeton said.

"What do......oh, no! Not them! The Two Evils are dead! How can they be alive after what I sent thewm through?!" Benji said. Moeton raised his hand up to him and Benji quickly fell silent.

"Hush, great grandson of Hary Phillips, the Two Evils that you speak of are dead and gone from this world. They are no more and will be no more. The visitors are Earthlings like you, your brother, and Brian." Moeton said. A slight smile showed upon his lips and then vanished. The three teen-agers looked at each other with puzzled eyes. Benji shrugged his shoulders that showed the three of them that he had no idea what Moeton was talking about. Nate did the same and so did Brian.

"I see that you have no idea what I am talking about." Moeton said, the smile returning to his lips, and this time staying there. He turned to face his door of the study and then called to it. "You may enter, grandson of Hary Phillips and wife the man so named." Moeton said. The door swung open. Beofe the three children were Benjis' and Nates' parents: Chuck and Julia Phillips! Benji was taken aback for a moment and so was his brother. Then they cried out to them.

"Dad! Mom! What are you guys doing here? It's so good to see you gusy again!" Benji said as he ran over to his father and mother. They hugged him close. Nate stayed where he was. He didn't trust them just yet.

"Why do you not go to them. They are your parents." Moeton said to Nate. He turned so that he could look Moeton in the eyes for a moment.

"I don't trust them." Nate said softly. Moeton smile broadened further.

"You may trust them with your life, great grandson of Hary Phillips. They are no longer evil. Your brother has seen to that." Moeton said. With that, Nate walked over to his father and stood before. He was ready for whatever would happen. Benji let go of his father and then stepped away from the two of them. This was for them to work out between them and not anyone else. For a long time the two people looked at each other with eyes that had nothing in them. Then Chuck took hold of his son and hugged him close to his body. Nate was stunned. He had never been hugged like this by his father.....not since his birth-mother had died in the car crash almost four years ago. Nate hesitated to place his arms around his father. Benji smiled at him from the right and gave him a thumbs-up sign. A tear trickled down out of the corner of Nates' right eye and he slowly placed his hands around his father.

"Dad, I don't believe it, but it's really you. The real you." Nate said softly. Chuck pulled his son away from him and held onto his shoulders. He looked at him and then pulled him back to him.

"Yes, Nate, it is really me. The evil inside of us is dead. We are no longer what we once were. Your brother has killed the evil within us." Chuck said. Benji walked over to Brian and then looked back at Moeton.

"Why haven't you brought Brians' parents here to this world, Wizard?" Benji asked. He didn't think that it was right that his parents were to be there with them and that Brians' wasn't.

"Benji, I don't want my parents to be here with me. I can't bring myself to love them like you have done to your parents. They have been abusive since I was a little kid and I won't be able to trust them. Not even if they were made into the good souls that they probably once were. No. I don't want them here at all. But you and your brother, somehow when you each faced death, wanted your parents to be there for you so that you could tell them that you still loved them before you died. Moeton heard your silent crys and then brought them both here to this world. I just need some more time by myself, without anyone looking out for me save for my friends." Brian said. Benji hugged him to him and then the small group walked out of the Palace of Peace and they each went their own ways. If there would be any other quests that they would have to go on, Benji and his friends and family would be ready to take it on. They would fight it to their last breaths of air. They would fight it to their own deaths and then more so in their spirit forms, they would fight the evil. They would not let it walk the earth upon which they stood now or later. They would make sure that it died, and if necessary, died with them. But until that time when they fight evil once again and once again embark upon a quest to save the good in the world where it was always a struggle of survival between the two...........farewell for now and may the light of goodness shine upon you wherever you are. Farewell.

If you never say hello.....you won't have to say good-bye!
