Things I've learned about Wisconsin

- there are 24 paper mills between Oshkosh and Green Bay.
- the state beverage is milk (no big surprise there); the state dance is the polka (also not a big surprise).
- Wisconsin is actually not the #1 dairy producer. California is. We do, however, produce more cheese.
- We have a state fossil. It's the trilobite.
- We also have three state animals. The regular state animal is the badger. The state domesticated animal is the dairy cow. The state wild animal is the white-tailed deer.
- Madisonians are proud of the fact that their city is the only state capital on an isthmus.
- In the books I've been reading lately, villains are always from Wisconsin (usually Appleton). Also there are several serial killers from here.
- People really do talk like the movie Fargo, and if you're a native you protest that you really don't and that it was an exaggeration. Trust me, if you're not from here, it's not an exaggeration.
- Professional sports team fans wear things on their heads. Like styrofoam cheese (Packers) and buckets (Brewers).
- Madison is described as "70 square miles surrounded by reality."
- Milwaukee is bigger than Boston.
- We can recycle plastics 1-7. This includes styrofoam. Who knew?
- Appleton is perhaps the strangest place on earth.
- The highest point in Wisconsin is lower than the lowest point in Colorado.
- Wisconsin does not have a state tartan. Colorado does. I'm sort of disappointed. Why don't we get a tartan?
- I'm not making any of this up. Though some of it might be opinion rather than fact. The rest came from Wikipedia.
