all the world's a stage

Monthly post time!

well damn, the bad part about updating infrequently is that much happens in between posts. Eh well, high points.

I hope everybody saw and mourned the passing of Gary Gygax, one of the founding fathers of D&D, without whom many of the things that I take enjoyment from would not exist. A lot of webcomics have tributes up for him, my favorites are at Order of the Stick and XKCD, all those who proudly proclaim their geekiness should mark this solemn occasion. We'll be gaming with the black dice this weekend in his honor.

also... when the heck did lj get a spellcheck feature? Has this been here all along and I just never noticed the little red underlines or is this new?

aand, other things... my friend Hilary was in a pretty bad car accident, her car was flipped upside down at an intersection. Ironically, I had just crossed this intersection and I heard the accident happening and then on my way back I saw the upside down car and the large numbers of emergency vehicles converged around it, but I didn't realize that it was my friend until another friend called me later to tell me. She's fine though, a little sore, a little shaken but fine. Probably her seatbelt saved her from injury, we also think that her steel frame corset, which she was wearing at the time, might have kept her from having any back injuries by keeping her back stiff, interestingly enough.

I missed out on a They Might Be Giants concert, sadly, I found out about it the day that tickets sold out :-( maybe next time.

My team won second place in the academic quadrathalon, which was pretty cool. We absolutely stomped the other six teams in the quizbowl section and pretty much owned in the lab practical and written test sections but we did rather abysmally on our oral presentation. Points of pride: my team got the highest score in the lab practical on the companion animals, exotics, and poultry sections. So it was much fun and now I don't have to take exit exams for graduation, wins all around. But since we're second place we won't be going to state unless the first place team can't make it.

And, Tanner's coming to visit me over spring break!!! He's already reserved a hotel room so it's pretty concrete, now I have to find things for us to do here ^_^ I can't wait, I've been trying to get him to come visit for so long it seems a little unreal that it's finally happening.

hmm, I'm sure there are more things but I can't think of any... I beat the first half of Okami, and I'm stuck fighting the Granfalloon in Castlevania (bodies! bodies everywhere!) so... go me. I should stop procrastinating and finish up studying for tomorrow's genetics test.

g'night all *tips hat*
