I think everyone, of any political belief, can unite around how crappy that poem was.
No wonder no one thinks poetry matters any more; that was like a giant pile of rotten fig leaves mulched across raw meat and larvae. I know there are better poets. I've heard many of them read. Couldn't they have gotten Lucille Clifton? Or Stanley Kunitz? Someone who understands the music of language, or at least that awkward sentence structure =/= poetry.
