Yesterday, my friends and I went to
Lotte World, the amusement park in Jamsil, Seoul that is not Disneyland (despite the daily parade, monorail, and magic castle in the center).
It may be a Disneyland ripoff, but I had a lot of fun here. They had some great rides, my three favorites being the Atlantis (a rollercoaster), the Gyro Swing (which I wish I had a picture of because it's really hard to describe, but is like a giant ring of people that swings back and forth and spins), and The Adventures of Sindbad (a boat ride a la Pirates of the Caribbean, except it features Sindbad battling viking skeletons, a cyclops, a three-headed dragon, a golden idol, and an evil wizard to rescue his ugly animatronic girlfriend). I spent way too much money on crappy food and toys that I didn't really need, the worst being the little
fox toy my friends and I FINALLY rescued from the skillclaw machine after much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
But hey, that's what you do at amusement parks, right? I may be 28, but I wore my new sheep ear headband with pride. Sadly, I do not have a boyfriend, or I would also have been wearing half of a matching t-shirt set. Apparently, this is the thing for couples at Lotte World to do. Really, I should have counted. The number of couples wearing matching t-shirts in Lotte World may rival the number of people carrying Louis Vuitton bags on Kobe trains. I suppose it's better than the ubiquitous
Marie costumes at Tokyo Disneyland.
Almost as fun as visiting the attractions at Lotte World is reading the English descriptions of the attractions. Here are a few examples:
Ball Battle: "Strange, but fun experience in a party filled with balls."
Revelation of Pharaoh: "Psychological evaluation game that uses ancient Egyptian abilities."
Ghost House: "Scary experience as a cat jumps into a house on a stormy day where objects move around on their own."
Don't you wish you could go?
Sadly, I did not get to ride the French Revolution this time, as some of my friends didn't really like roller coasters and couldn't take any more after the Atlantis. But next time...if there is a next time...
