I suppose this is coincidence, if anything... I didn't get a notification for this post, but was just clearing my LJ inbox, found a message from you from waaaay back and thought let's see if she is still around... and voilà! :o) I hope all is well with you and your plans went at least mostly as intended!

Yay to having finshed the endless WIP! *\O/* I've rediscovered Tolkien and got sucked into the fannish part of his universe nearly a year ago and haven't read any Potterverse fic or books for about as long, so for the moment I'm saving it into my huge ebook reader file... one of the coolest facts about these gadgets is the possibility of having any kind of fanfic one ever intended to read available at all times.

Take care, and have a good time!

Thanks. :)
Ah - Tolkien. I never really got into the fannish part, because I can't find anyhting in his books that would need improvement ;) and I don't really have a OTP there. But I love all the books I could get my hands on so far.
How do you save the fanfic to the ebook reader, is there a tool for that or do you do it by hand?
I'll try to post again from time to time, I miss my friends here - but I don't really miss the fandom per se.

I hear you about fanfom vs. friends from fandom! For me, it feels like I'm slowly drifting out of it. The friends found here are much more important and interesting.

because I can't find anyhting in his books that would need improvement ;Well, if that is the motivation for writing fanfic, I fully agree - certainly not! But the lovely part is that his universe is so vast that the number of untold stories is enormous. I'm not thinking in OTPs at all, though I have my favourite set of characters - or rather race, I'm infatuated with the elves, but mainly in the pre-LotR ages. I've also become quite a fan of slash to my own surprise, though, like in the Potterverse, I'm usually more interested in gen or mostly gennish stories than in romantic or explicit ones ( ... )

Heh, thanks, you wrote a good tutorial there.
I'm using calibre and know how to transfer the files - my problem is mainly laziness.
I'm too lazy to copy or save chapter by chapter of favourite stories, especially since I prefer really long stories.
If there was a tool that just -swoosh- links them together... the rest is a piece of cake. ;)
I've been doing that stuff the hard way for far too long now. I still often use my ancient palm reader with pdf files for reading, because it is small and such a lightweight.

Oh, too right! You can always try to put them together by calibre, I've heard that this should work, though I never bothered to find out. Thankfully, most of the Tolkien fanfic archives have the "print story" option, so I don't have that problem.

I tried to suggest preparing ready ebooks for download on LJ fests, or also posting on A03 where this would be possible, but so far the idea was discouraged, for different reasons. So during fests we sometimes mailed ebooks to each other for convenience's sake. Since I'm in the Tolkienverse, there has been only one fest where no story was longer than two LJ-entries. But if I ever come across an option I'll think of you. ;o)
